Jaminton Enrique Intriago Alcívar is an Ecuadorian politician who currently serves as Assemblyman for the province of Manabí District 1.
Early years[edit]
Jaminton Intriago was born in the Flavio Alfaro canton, Manabí. He obtained his degree in agricultural engineering from the University of Havana, Cuba, where he specialized in topics related to agriculture and rural development.[1]
Political career[edit]
His political career began in his native canton, Flavio Alfaro, where he was elected mayor for two terms. During his tenure, he focused on improving infrastructure and public services, as well as promoting agricultural development in the region.[2]
In November 2023, Intriago was installed as an assembly member for the province of Manabí District 1, representing the Unidos Somos Más alliance, made up of the Social Christian Party and the provincial Caminantes movement.[3] As an assemblyman, he has been a strong defender of food sovereignty and has worked to recover the agricultural sector of Manabí and the entire country.
During his term as assemblyman, he chaired the Permanent Commission on Food Sovereignty and Development of the Agricultural and Fishing Sector, where he promoted legislative initiatives to strengthen the food sovereignty policy and support Ecuadorian farmers and fishermen.
Controversies[edit]
In 2013, he was investigated by the General State Prosecutor's Office for a crime of embezzlement related to the embezzlement of public funds intended for works in the Municipality of Flavio Alfaro.[4] A 90-day investigation was ordered, although finally, in 2018, the criminal chamber of the Manabí Court of Justice declared him innocent.[4][5]
In September 2022, his house was shot at by unknown persons. At that time, Intriago was in the United States and claimed not to have problems with anyone, ruling out that the incident had political motivations, since he would not participate as a candidate for mayor in any popular election in the 2023 sectional elections.[6][7]
