Ernest Cole: Lost and Found is an upcoming American-French documentary film, directed, written, and produced by Raoul Peck. It follows Ernest Cole, a photographer who exposed the horrors of Apartheid.

It will have its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2024, and is scheduled to be released in France on December 25, 2024, by Condor Distribution.

Premise[edit]

Ernest Cole exposes the horror of Apartheid through photographs, which resulted in him fleeing to the United States. In 2017, 60,000 negatives of his work were found in a Swedish bank safe.[2]

Production[edit]

The documentary is produced in collaboration with the Cole estate, and access to his archive.[3][4] In February 2024, it was announced LaKeith Stanfield would voice Cole.[5]

Release[edit]

It will have its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in the Special Screenings section on May 20, 2024.[6][7] It is scheduled to be released in France on December 25, 2024.[8]
