Saeed Amidi (Persian: سعید عمیدی) is an Iranian-born entrepreneur in the field of information technology. He is the founder and CEO of Plug and Play Tech Center. Amidi immigrated to the United States in 1970 and has been active in entrepreneurship and investment in the information technology industry.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Saeed Amidi is considered to have grown up in one of the prominent entrepreneurial families in Iran. He is the son of one of the founders of Bella Shoe Company in Tehran (Amid Hozour), which later changed its family name to Amidi after leaving Iran and several years.[2]

In the 1970s, Saeed Amidi, along with his brother Rahim, left Iran for the United States. The two brothers decided to deviate from engaging in the family business of manufacturing and, considering the technological advancements in the world, ventured into new businesses.

Amidi was a student at Menlo College in California in 1979 and transitioned into the field of technology in 2000.[3][4]

Career[edit]

Plug and Play[edit]

After immigrating to the United States, Amidi and his brother became the owners of Building 165 on University Avenue near Stanford University where they ventured into new businesses. At the peak of the formation of technology companies in the United States, they rented out their building to companies such as Google, Logitech, PayPal, and others. Gradually, they realized startups in the technology sector were experiencing astonishing growth rates and investing in these companies would be better. This realization became the foundation for the establishment of Plug and Play.[5][6][7]

The idea quickly gained traction, and they expanded operations. They purchased a large building in the Sunnyvale area of Silicon Valley, which was previously owned by Philips, and in 2006, they relocated Plug and Play to that location.[8][9][10]

Amidi Group[edit]

In 1980, Saeed co-founded the Amidi Group, which is a conglomerate of privately held business enterprises. The group comprises various domestic and international entities and holds significant assets in manufacturing, distribution, trading, retail, and real estate sectors.[11]
