Domingo en llamas was a Venezuelan band formed in Caracas in 2005 by José Ignacio Benítez, the only constant member.
History[edit]
The band's background dates back to a previous project by José Ignacio Benítez called Master Gurú, which achieved some fame by winning the edition of the Festival Nuevas Bandas in 2003,[1] disbanding shortly after this, in 2004.[2][3]
Between 2005 and 2014 Domingo en llamas released twelve albums independently, four of these published simultaneously in 2014,[4] in which he collaborated with Juanma Trujillo and Simón Hernández, as well as crediting the participation of different alter egos of himself.[2] He performed them at the Festival de Cantautores, in a concert at the Centro Chacao Cultural in June 2016.[5][3]
In 2017 the band announced via Facebook their separation due to the venezuelan economic crisis[6] and the continuation of Benítez in future projects, which included the premiere of the album Pajarera vertical with Gustavo Guerrero,[4][7] then musical director of Natalia Lafourcade, and with Laura Guevara.[8]
Musical style[edit]
The project covered a wide range of genres ranging from folk, rock, jazz, blues, synth pop2 and traditional Venezuelan rhythms. The media Analytica defined his music as "rock poetry and tropical psychedelia with high emotional impact".[5] On a lyrical level, some of Benítez's compositions are recited. In the song Memorias de la democracia the lyrics review the history of the last forty years of the 20th century in Venezuela.[2]
