Singles from Stampede: Vol. 1

Going into this, I wanted to make sure that every single song on the album felt like a true 50/50 collaboration of me and the other artists' style and sound and genre. I didn't want to just feel like a bunch of Orville Peck songs that feature verses from other artists. I wanted each one to be an actual collaboration. Every single song on the album is entirely its own thing, dependent on who the artist is. It's a really fun journey. It's definitely the most adventurous I've ever been in terms of genre. It's some of the most country songs I've ever done on this album and some of the least country songs I've ever done on this album.

—Peck on recording Stampede: Vol. 1[1]

Stampede: Vol. 1 is a 2024 extended play by Canadian outlaw country musician Orville Peck, made up of vocal duets. The album follows 2022's Bronco and a self-imposed hiatus in 2023 and was accompanied by a promotional tour as well as the lead single "Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other", a duet with Willie Nelson.[2][3][4]

Reception[edit]

Writing in Slant Magazine, Steve Erickson scored this album 3 out of 5 stars, praising specific tracks but also critiquing that "musically, though, the album isn’t always as savvy", with some genre explorations being more successful than others.[5]
