Sokpoly dedicated many years to seeking out supporters and partnerships in order to create a collection of short films single-handedly and without any financial resources. Despite successfully bringing some projects to fruition, such as My Tasks 2023, budget limitations ultimately led to crucial scenes being omitted.[2]

Film career[edit]

In 2023, American Intercon School provided the platform for the launch of his inaugural film, 'My Task'.[2] Despite facing financial limitations, Sokpoly Voeun successfully produced and directed the film, which delves into the life of a school bus driver tasked with ferrying students safely to their destination.[3] The narrative emphasizes emotions, introspection, and a profound sense of responsibility as core themes.[2]

With significant backing from Puur Un Sourire D'enfant, a student at a film school in 2024, his second film 'Metal Strings' was successfully produced.[4] The premiere of 'Metal Strings' took place at the 'Cloud Metal Film Fest' on June 9, 2024.[5]

The narrative of 'Metal Strings' traces back to a decade ago when Nara served as a pivotal member of Reign in Slumber, a renowned Cambodian metal band. Together with his bandmates Alain, Ronan, Tin, and Nel, Nara devoted himself to safeguarding their unique music genre amidst numerous challenges.[6][7][8][9] From battling artist discrimination to navigating a toxic societal landscape, the members of Reign in Slumber persistently sought to garner recognition and appreciation for their creative endeavors.[10][11]
