Plugd Records
Plugd Records is an independent record shop and concert venue in Cork City, Ireland.
Founded by Jim Horgan, and co-run until 2018 by Albert Twomey (co-founder of Out On A Limb Records), Plugd not only sells records, CDs, cassettes and printed matter like zines, but also acts as an intimate venue and an important hub for Cork's alternative music scene.[1]
Originally based on Washington Street, Plugd temporarily sold music from An Realt Dearg (local pub - now called The Gateway) before relocating to the former ESB substation on Caroline Street. In 2011, Plugd found a new home on the first floor of the Triskel Arts Centre, Tobin Street (Cork) with its sister café, Gulpd, located on the ground floor.[2]
The shop later relocated to the top floor of the Roundy bar in the Queen's Old Castle area of the city, where it continued to function as a venue in the evenings.
In 2022, after the pandemic-era closure of its Roundy operation, it opened a new record shop and café on the city's Coal Quay, which also continues to function as an intimate venue.
