Kononov (masculine), Kononova (feminine) is a Russian patronymic surname derived from the given name Konon. The Kononovs could have been named after the son, grandson, or nephew of someone named Konon (Latin ‘Conon, Conan’). Subsequently, this nickname became a family name and was officially registered as such.
