Gerald Ogando is a Dominican stand-up comedian, singer, composer, actor, and radio show host. His radio show won the Soberano award for comedian of the year in the Dominican Republic in 2022.[1]

His dynamic way of presenting stand-up comedy and his creativity in composing and writing parodies of current events and politics, added to his facet as a singer, and led him to create the show called "Gerald Ogando show man, a band with humor" (Spanish: Gerald Ogando show man, una banda con humor) thus becoming the first Dominican comedian to perform with a musical orchestra.[2] His style of comedic performance resembles that of the Latin American comedians Les Luthiers of Argentina and the emblematic comedian and former Venezuelan presidential candidate, Er Conde Guacharo.

Musical comedy show[edit]

Ogando hosts a comedy event which debuted on July 14, 2022 at Chao Café Teatro. This was the first show produced and performed by Ogando, where he celebrated his Soberano "Comedian of the Year" Award, and included monologues and satire, as well as stand-up comedy about current events in the Dominican Republic.

He composed a song where "todos los políticos llevaron" (lit.'all the politicians took'), as he expressed by interpreting "desde que tu llegaste" (lit.'since you arrived') to the rhythm of "La ventanita" by Sergio Vargas while wearing a presidential jacket. He also summarized the last three governments of the country, those of Leonel Fernández, Danilo Medina and Luis Abinader.[3]

He performs on the Mariasela Álvarez program.[4]
