Rookie picks[edit]

A rookie is a South African player aged 22 or younger on the day of the auction and who has not been previously drafted in the SA20 League.[6]

All six teams were mandated to select a player from the rookie draft. A player meeting the definition of a Rookie could be bought in the regular auction stage, however, if not chosen in the regular auction, they became eligible for the rookie draft, which took place at the end of the regular auction. If a franchise already had a player in the squad that met the definition of a rookie player, that player did not count as the rookie player as far as this provision was concerned.[13]

Each rookie player had a set value of R75,000, which was deducted from the team’s available salary cap prior to the auction to ensure that the rookie Fee was sufficiently catered for by each Franchise. The standard regulations pertaining to squad composition, salary cap, and base prices applied. The order of selection of the rookie draft was in reverse order of the final position of each team in the previous season.[13]

  • Durban's Super Giants: Bryce Parsons
  • Joburg Super Kings: Ronan Hermann
  • MI Cape Town: Connor Esterhuizen
  • Pretoria Capitals: Steve Stolk
  • Paarl Royals: Lhuan-dre Pretorius
  • Sunrisers Eastern Cape: Andile Simelane

Wildcard picks[edit]

For the wildcard pick, each team has until December 30, 2024, this players fee is excluded from the salary cap.[6]
