Pooja Singh (athlete)

Pooja Singh (born 21 February 2007) is an Indian athlete. She competes in the high jump event. She is named in the Indian athletics team for the high jump event for the 2022 Asian Games at Hangzhou, China.[1] She reached the finals of the Asian Games women's high jump event along with compatriot Rubina Yadav and finished sixth. Rubina finished ninth.

Early life[edit]

Pooja hails from Bosti village in Haryana. Her father Hansraj is a construction worker.[2] Coach Balwan Singh spotted Pooja while during a yoga session and was impressed with her yoga postures, charasana and dhanurasana (yoga forms) and recruited her and started training her as a high jumper.[3]

Career[edit]

  • 2023: She won a silver medal at the 20th Asian U20 Athletics Championship, Yecheon.
  • 2023: Won a gold at the Youth Asian Championship in Tashkent.[3]
  • 2023: In July, she took part in the Asian Athletics Championships, Supachalasai National Stadium, Bangkok.
  • 2023: She also won a bronze at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Trinidad & Tobago.
