Last name origin and meaning[edit]

  • The Sohl last name derives from the North Germanic peoples of the Viking Age who were often referred to as Norsemen. It is believed the Sohl last name is originally of Norwegian descent. Olaf Sohl was the first known Sohl, who was part of a Viking raid in Bremerhaven. According to his legend, his Vikings triumphed, and he celebrated for days, missing the departing ship. Olaf Sohl then settled in Germany and spread his roots."
