Joku Paikallinen Bändi

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joku Paikallinen Bändi (Finnish for "some local band") is a Finnish rock band from Kemi[1] founded in 1998.[2] The band plays Suomirock classics.[3] With 120 gigs per year[4] it is one of the most active bands in Finland.[citation needed]

History[edit]

Joku Paikallinen Bändi was founded in 1998 by vocalist Heikki "Heme" Vieresjoki.[5] After the band grew tired of playing their own songs to empty audiences, they switched to playing famous Finnish rock and roll hits instead. The band toured mainly in northern Finland before establishing themselves as one of the most sought-after bands in the country in 2005.[citation needed]

The name of the band has attracted attention[6] and caused confusion.[7] It originated when Heme was working as a doorman at various restaurants in Kemi. When people asked for the name of the band, Heme's reply was always the same: "I don't remember. It is some local band."[citation needed] The pub Joku Paikallinen Pubi ("some local pub") in Oulu is named after the band.[8]

Members[edit]

In addition to Heme, members have included Antti Lainas (drums,[9] keyboard and vocals), Janne Jokisalo (guitar), Janne Posti (guitar), Marko Tirkkonen (bass), Santtu Heikkinen (drums) and Simo Aalto (drums).[1][5] The last remaining original members, Heme and Posti, quit in 2011. The band's current members are Pyle (vocals), Tupe (drums), Jussi (bass) and Late (guitar).
