Akbar Shandermani (Persian: اکبر شاندرمنی ) (born in 1917 in Bandar Anzali – died in 1995) was an Iranian communist politician. He was a member of the Fifty-Three and later the Tudeh Party of Iran.[1][2][3]

Biography and political activities[edit]

Akbar Shandermani was born in 1917 in Rasht. In his youth, he worked as an apprentice to a merchant in Rasht and later as an apprentice to a tailor in Abadan. In 1937, he became involved in communist activities in Iran along with his brother. He was convicted the following year along with the Fifty-Three Movement. He was released in 1941 but initially did not participate in party activities. Later, he joined the Tudeh Party in Tehran with his brother and became one of the youth organization leaders. Akbar Shandermani was convicted of conspiracy in 1948 and sentenced to ten years in prison, but he escaped from prison in 1950.[4]

From 1957 to 1961 he studied at the Higher Party School in Moscow. Many foreign communists, including Akbar Shandermani, were being trained in the Central Committee of the Communist Party's Higher Party School in Moscow.

From 1962 to 1980 he worked at the Tajik National University as an Associate Professor for Persian Language and Literature.
