The 1997–98 Harty Cup was the 78th staging of the Harty Cup since its establishment by the Munster Council of Gaelic Athletic Association in 1918.[1] The competition ran from 15 October 1997 to 15 March 1998.

St Colman's College were the defending champions, however, they were beaten by St Flannan's College in the semi-finals.[2][3]

The Harty Cup final was played on 15 March 1998 at MacDonagh Park in Nenagh, between St Flannan's College and Limerick CBS, in what was their fifth meeting in the final overall and a first meeting in five years. St Flannan's College won the match by 0–12 to 0–05 to claim their 17th Harty Cup title overall and a first title in seven years.[4]

Cathal McCarthy and Neil Ronan were the joint-top scorers.
