Onthophagus spinifex, is a species of dung beetle found in India,[1] Sri Lanka,[2] Bangladesh and China.[3]
Description[edit]
This broadly oval, very convex species has an average length of about 7.5 to 10 mm. Its body is dark blue, dark metallic or golden-green in color.
Its legs and ventrum are blackish whereas the antennae, mouthparts, and tarsi are reddish. It has dorsum and ventrum covered with yellowish hairs and setae. Its head is broad, and nearly semicircular. Clypeus coarsely transversely rugose. Its pronotum is very smooth and shiny with moderately close small granules.
It has elytra that is finely striate, with flat intervals. Its pygidium is strongly and closely punctured. Males have a long slender horn on the head, arising between the eyes. Females on the other hand have two strongly elevated and curved carinae.[4][1]
