Indian 3 is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language vigilante action film directed by S. Shankar, who co-wrote the screenplay with B. Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairamuthu, and Lakshmi Saravana Kumar. The film is jointly produced by Subaskaran Allirajah and Udhayanidhi Stalin under Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies. The third installment of the Indian trilogy, it serves as the direct sequel to Indian 2 (2024). The film stars an ensemble cast which includes Kamal Haasan reprising his role as Senapathy, an ageing freedom fighter turned vigilante who fights against corruption, alongside Siddharth, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, S. J. Suryah, Bobby Simha, Vivek, and Priya Bhavani Shankar.

Initially intended to be a single film, Indian 2 was later split into two films due to the final footage becoming over 6 hours long. Principal photography commenced in January 2019 and wrapped by mid-March 2024. It was shot sporadically in several legs over the next four years in Chennai, Rajahmundry, Bhopal, Gwalior, Tirupati, Chennai, and Vijayawada, Johannesburg and Taiwan. Over the course of filming, a suspension made by an accident that killed some crew members and delay by the COVID-19 pandemic were made. The film has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography handled by Ravi Varman and R. Rathnavelu,[a] editing by A. Sreekar Prasad, production design by T. Muthuraj and visual effects supervision by V. Srinivas Mohan.

Indian 3 is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release in January 2025.

Production[edit]

In June 2023, during the production of Indian 2 (2024), co-producer Udhayanidhi Stalin, header of Red Giant Movies, stated that they had discussed plans for a sequel to the film.[17] The following month, it was reported that the film would be split into two-parts, as the final footage became over 6 hours long; the latter titled Indian 3, was being shot simultaneously.[18] Around 75% of the footage had been shot for the sequel, and the remainder of it would be shot after Haasan and Shankar's commitments on their forthcoming projects.[19][20] It was later reported that filming would commence in January 2024 and will be released on Diwali of the same year.[21] On 24 March, Haasan confirmed the third installment in the franchise; he stated that Indian 3 was shot alongside with Indian 2.[22]

Release[edit]

In May 2024, Haasan said they were aiming to release Indian 3 in January 2025.[23]
