Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development

Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development, commonly known as AAMUSTED is a public university located in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Ghana. The University was established under 1026 Act of 2020 of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana to champion the course of higher technical, vocational and entrepreneurial education in the country[1].

The University was formed from the amalgamation of the College of Technology Education, Kumasi (COLTEK) and the College of Agriculture Education (CAGRIC) , Asante- Mampong which were both once campuses of the University College of Education, Winneba (UCEW)[2][3].

History[edit]

On August 27, 2020, the College of Technology Education, Kumasi and the College of Agriculture Education, Asante- Mampong were convert to formed the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development. The name honors Mr. Akenten Appiah-Menka a Ghanaian Lawyer, Politician and Businessman[4][5][6].

The College of Technology Education, Kumasi (COLTEK ) was established in the year 1966 as Technical Teachers College(TTC) later on it was changed to Kumasi Advanced Technical Teachers College (KATTC) in1978. The College of Agriculture Education (CAGRIC), Asante - Mampong on the other hand had it from St. Andrews Training College in Akropong-Akwapim which was established in 1946 by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and the Scottish Mission[7][8].

Both colleges were amalgamated together with other seven (7) educational institutions to form the University of College Education in 1992 under the PNDC Law 322.

Prof. Frederick Kwaku Sarfo is the first and current Vice-Chancellor of the University[9].

Kumasi Campus[edit]

The Kumasi campus which is located in Tanoso is the main campus of the University. This campus alone houses 5 faculties with 12 Departments of the unviersity[10].

Mampong Campus[edit]

The Asante-Mampong campus is located 63 kilometers away from the main campus. It is located in Asante-Mampong which is the capital of the Mampong Municipal Assembly. The campus houses 4 faculties and 11 Department.
