IC 3275 is a spiral galaxy with a ring structure[1] located in the Virgo constellation.[2][3][4] It is located 811 million light-years away from the Solar System and has an approximate diameter of 120,000 light-years across.[5] IC 3275 was discovered on May 7, 1904, by Royal Harwood Frost.[6]
Supernova[edit]
One supernova has been discovered in IC 3275 so far: SN 2024fid.
SN 2024fid
SN 2024fid was discovered by the ATLAS program (Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System)[7] on March 29, 2024.[8] The supernova was reported by J. Tonry, L. Denneau, H. Weiland, A. Lawrence and R. Siverd from University of Hawaii, N. Erasmus, W. Koorts from South African Astronomical Observatory, A. Jordan, V. Suc from UAI, Obstech and other astronomers. They saw it via unfiltered images from orange-ATLAS which was taken using an ATLAS telescope at Mauna Loa.[8] SN 2024fid was located at right ascension (12h 24m 18s.866) and declination (+10 degrees 26' 46" 40), with a magnitude of 18.8.[9] The supernova was Type Ia-91bg-like.[10]
