Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2: Myths and Mortals is the 29th season of Fortnite: Battle Royale. C5S2 focuses on Greek mythology bringing the Gods of Olympus(Zeus, Poseidon, Aphrodite, Ares, Artemis, Apollo), other Greek mythology related characters like Hades, Cerberus, Medusa, Perseus, etc., and Greek inspired mythics to the game, which include Zeus' Thunderbolt, Chains of Hades and Wings of Icarus. Following the events of Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1: Underground, where the Pandora's box unleashed evils and chaos onto to the island, the Greek gods arrived to get rid of the evils. Enraged by the opening of Pandora's box, Zeus decides to end all of mankind which serves as the main conflict of this season. Myths and Mortals was scheduled to launch on March 8, 2024, at 9AM EST, however due to glitches and bugs, Epic Games delayed the game all the way until 9PM EST.

Despite the delays, Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2: Myths and Mortals was met with initial universal acclaim receiving praise for the return of a proper storyline, constant updates, the inclusion of two new biomes(the Olympus and Underworld biome), loot pool and battle pass. Many called it one of the best Fortnite seasons in a while and one of the all-time best. As the season went on, it was met with less favorable reviews, however, was still very well received.

Gameplay[edit]

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2: Myths and Mortals launched with 4 new weapons, the Warforged Assault Rifle, Harbinger SMG, Gatekeeper Shotgun and the Huntress DMR. Later on the season, it also unvaulted the drumgun and Hand Cannon which were also updated to have weapon mods. Mythics included Zeus' Thunderbolt, Wings of Icarus, Chains of Hades and Banana of the Gods.

Mythics[edit]

Zeus' Thunderbolt allowed you to ascend above and throw thunderbolts at the opponent. Since, the launch of the season, the community has been complaining about the thunderbolt being very broken, especially since it could go through builds which was heavily criticized by competitive Fortnite players.

The Chains of Hades are a multi-functional tool used to attack opponents and also pull items towards you similar to the Harpoon Gun. It has an attack cycle of 3 with the first two attacks dealing 55 damage and the 3rd hit dealing 80 damage with a combined total of 190 damage. The Chains of Hades also have a secondary attack which deals 60 damage and pulls opponents and teammates towards your location (including players out of Cars and those flying with the Wings of Icarus). The secondary attack can also pull items towards the user and can even pull items from Fishing Spots.

The Wings of Icarus allow the player to ascend into the air and maintain flight with multi-directional control for a prolonged period of time. As the player remains airborne, the Wings will slowly start to burn, eventually forcing a landing. When high enough, a Dive Bomb attack can be used. It consists of a high impact landing that deals damage to all structures in a 3x3 area and knocks opponents back, dealing them damage that can pierce through destroyed buildings. When the player receives substantial damage mid-air, they will immediately crash to the ground, forcefully performing the Dive Bomb attack. After crashing, the cooldown before using the Wings of Icarus again will be 12s instead of the normal 5s. When the Wings of Icarus are held, the player will be rendered immune to fall damage. This effect takes place even outside of flight. A player can carry more than one Wings of Icarus in their inventory at the same time. When a player finish using the Wings of Icarus, all Wings of Icarus in their inventory enter cooldown.

Banana of the Gods is a foraged item which you can use to heal your health. It also gives you more speed and jump for a while.

Medallions[edit]

Medallions were changed from Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1: Underground. Instead of healing your shields, medallions now have their own abilities.

Aspect of Speed Zeus The vigor of Zeus! Run faster and jump higher while sprinting.
Aspect of Siphon Hades Power to restore vitality! Grants healing siphon effect on enemy elimination.
Aspect of Combat Ares Prepare for War! Imbues ranged weapons with increased damage.

Map Changes[edit]

Zeus appears as an NPC Boss at Mount Olympus and upon defeating him, the player gets the Aspect of Speed medallion, Zeus' mythic Huntress DMR, Zeus' Thunderbolt and flowberry fizz. Fortnite x Avatar: The Last Airbender[edit]

Fortnite did a collab with Avatar: The Last Airbender bringing 4 mythics to the game and 5 skins, with 3 of them going to the item shop and 2(Aang) going to the Elements Pass.

Mythics[edit]

Waterbending, Firebending, Earthbending and Airbending were added to the game for the collab.

Mythic Functionality
Waterbending Water bending can be used to throw quick ice projectiles in bursts of 3. The icicles can cover large distances with little falloff and score critical hits. The number of available charges is indicated with a ring of water surrounding the player. Aside from its offensive capabilities, Water bending heals the player for 5 Health per second when standing in the water, unless the player is in The Storm.
Firebending Firebending can be used to attack in two ways, one by launching "Fire Sweep" Flames towards enemies, and one by using "Fire Slam" where the player slams down to make an explosion that deals 80 damage to environment and enemies around. Although the attacks involve fire, they don't set anything on fire.
Earthbending Earthbending can be used for both dealing damage, and for taking cover and creating defense for you and your teammates. Players can Throw Rocks which act like projectiles that explode on impact and deal damage to both players and structure around and can also create a barrier on instant for defense purposes, similar to Todoroki's Ice Wall.
Airbending Airbending is considered a mobility item, and is the only Avatar Item to not be used for dealing damage. It can be used for mobility to traverse around the island by using Air Wheel, and players can sprint and jump while in Air Wheel form, and players can also do an Air Jump to launch themselves up alongside nearby players.

A mini-pass was added with a free and premium track(for 1000 vbucks). The top reward for the free track was the Appa glider and the top reward for the premium track was Avatar Stage Aang.

Avatar officially ended on May 3, 2024, following the arrival of the Star Wars event.

Star Wars Event[edit]

A Star Wars event was launched on May 3, 2024, with the inclusion of 3 mythics, the Wookie Bowcaster and E11-Blasters, Darth Vader's lightsaber and Imperial Chests. Star Wars cosmetics were added to the item shop with 3 new skins. Chewbacca was added to the first ever Lego Battle pass which was sold for 1400 Vbucks.
