"Pantropiko" is a song recorded by Filipino girl group Bini. It was released as the second pre-release single of their debut extended play (EP), Talaarawan, on November 17, 2023.

Background and release[edit]

Following the positive reception garnered by Bini's previous single "Karera", Star Magic announced "Pantropiko" as the group's second pre-release single to promote their EP Talaarawan.[1] The song, alongside an accompanying performance video, was released on November 17, 2023.[2][3]

Composition[edit]

"Pantropiko" is three minutes and 45 seconds long.[4] The song is set in common time with a tempo of 95 beats per minute and written in the key of B.[5] It has been described as a "summer bubblegum pop anthem", with influences from African, Latin, and Caribbean music.[6] The track was produced by Mat Olivades and Jumbo De Belen and composed by Olivades, De Belen, Angelika Ortiz, and Paula Patricia Chavez.[1]

Commercial performance[edit]

A few months after its release, "Pantropiko" gained massive virality on TikTok, spawning countless dance challenge videos, which led to the song's rapid rise on domestic music charts.[7] On February 11, the song entered the Philippine edition of Spotify Charts' Daily Top Songs at number 173, before topping the chart on April 18.[2] With the momentum of the song's success, coupled with the release of Talaarawan on March 8, Bini achieved the milestone of becoming Spotify's highest-streamed female OPM artist, as well as the Filipino P-Pop group with the most monthly listeners.[8][9]

On Billboard's Philippines Songs, "Pantropiko" debuted at number 17 on the issue of March 23, 2024,[10] making Bini the first P-Pop girl group to chart[11] and the second P-Pop group after SB19.[12] The song entered the top 10 at number five on the issue of April 20, and along with "Salamin, Salamin" debuting at number 10,[13] Bini became the first P-Pop group to chart with multiple entries[14] and within the top 10.[15] On the chart's next issue on April 27, "Pantropiko" reached number one, marking Bini as the first P-pop group and Filipino girl group to top the chart,[16][17] and the second girl group overall after Blackpink.[18] It is also the eleventh OPM song to peak atop the chart.[19]
