Griffin Burns (born October 26) is an American voice actor and singer. Burns debuted as a voice actor in 2014. He is primarily known as being the voice of Tartaglia in the English version of Genshin Impact.[2]

Other major roles include Julius from Fire Emblem Heroes, Fret from Neo: The World Ends with You, Keisuke Hiraga from Persona 3 Reload, Muichiro Tokito from Demon Slayer, Colt Grice from Attack on Titan, Doppio from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, Tadano from Aggretsuko, and Akira from Devilman Crybaby. In 2017, Burns received the Breakthrough Voice Actor of the Year Award at the BTVA awards.[3]

Biography[edit]

Early Life[edit]

Burns was born in North Carolina on October 26.[4][2] Burns moved to Hanover, Pennsylvania where he would grow up. In a 2021 interview, Burns stated that while growing up, he was interested primarily in music, citing his grandfather as his main influence.[4]

Burns attended Mercersburg Academy in later years high school and ran for their cross cross country team.[5] He would graduate from Bucknell University in 2010 after studying English Literature.[6]

Acting Career[edit]

After graduating, Burns moved to Los Angeles to pursue music. After facing financial insecurity, Burns would pursue a career in voice acting starting with commercials.[7] His first lead role was as Ritsuka Fujimaru in the 2016 TV Movie, Fate/Grand Order: First Order.[2]

In 2017, he would voice Nathan Adams in the third season of Yo-kai Watch following budget cuts.[8] That same year, he would voice Mule Wolflame in Berserk,[9] Ryota Suzui in Kakegurui,[10] Ryodari in Children of the Whales,[2] and Jintan Yodomi in Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day.[11]

In 2020, Burns was cast as Tartaglia in Genshin Impact, his most well known role to date.[12][4]

Musical Career[edit]

In 2017, Burns and Kylen Deporter would form a band named New New Girlfriend. It was named after a quote from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.[7]

After seeing success of Genshin Impact and growing popularity of the character Childe, Burns would release a cover of Super Bass by Nicki Minaj while in character.[13] The cover would amass 364k views in 3 years and Burns would release more covers in character including "Baby" by Justin Bieber, "Fergalicious" by Fergie, and more.[14][15]

In 2023, Burns and fellow Genshin Impact voice actor Pat Pedraza released "LOVE LETTER FROM DALLAS" under the group name ScaredChilde. The music video, featuring both Burns and Pedraza, amassed 238k views on Youtube.[16] Their follow up song, "611 Anthem" amassed 201k views.[17]

Musical style and influences[edit]

On a livestream discussing his musical journey and role in New New Girlfriend, Burns stated, "I don't tout myself as a guitarist, I am more of a songwriter" [18] He noted that Deporter handled a majority of the production for the band. Deporter and Burns describe the general sound of the band as "somewhere between Weezer and The Beatles." [19] New New Girlfriends' musical style has been described as combining "the effervescence of 60’s pop harmonies, the wit and witticism of classic farce, and the earnest edge of 90’s adult alternative."[20] They have been noted for their sonic versatility and strong songwriting by critics.[21]

Burns cites Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Bush, and The Offspring as major sources of musical inspiration.[18]
