Saleh Shehu Yipmong (born 1973) is a Nigerian politician from Kunkyam in Dengi District of Kanam, Kanam Local Government Area. He was elected deputy speaker of the 8th and 9th Assembly of the Plateau State House of Assembly in 2017.[1]

Yipmong is a two-time member of the Assembly elected from Dengi Constituency on the platform of All Progressives Congress in 2015 and 2019. He was elected by members of the house as deputy speaker after the impeachment of Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi in 2017.[2] Yipmong was elected alongside the Speaker Abok Nuhu Ayuba in 2019 after they were sworn into the House of Assembly. Before that he was elected and served as deputy Speaker with Peter Ajang Azi in 2017, Joshua Azi Madaki in 2018, and lastly Yakubu Yackson Sanda in 2021 as speakers thereby making him the longest serving deputy speaker in the state and alongside others in Nigeria.[2][3]

Politics[edit]

He started his political career when he run for the Member of the Plateau State House of Assembly in 2015 and got elected during The 2015 Nigerian General Elections

He was elected to the House of Assembly in the 2015 election, and was elected as deputy speaker after the former deputy speaker was impeached in 2017.[4] He was then reelected as Deputy Speaker after winning the 2019 State Assembly general election.[5] He was the chairman house committees in several committees such as House Committee on Special Duties, Finance and Land and Survey Planning.[citation needed]

In 2023, Yipmong ran for the Plateau Central Senatorial seat[6] in which he later withdrew his aspiration to support Diket Plang Setso.
