The School of Nursing, Baptist Christian Hospital, founded in April 1954, is an institute recognized by the Assam Nursing Council and the Indian Nursing Council for the course in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM).[1] The institute is located in Tezpur, Assam .[2] The School of Nursing has received Minority status under NCMEI.[3] The Nursing school has an annual intake of 30 students. The institute has separate hostel for boys and girls with a total capacity of 135 beds. Boys Hostel Number of beds - 15, Girls Hostel Number of beds - 120. The institute library has a total 935 number of books and 5 number of journals.[4]

The School of Nursing, Baptist Christian Hospital, was established in April 1954[5] by Ms. Arlene Jenson and Ms. Betty Pierson, Christian Missionaries from the Baptist General Conference (BGC) USA. The school's main objective was to train nurses who could contribute to improving healthcare delivery in the region. The founding of the school marked an important milestone in the field of nursing education. In its inaugural year, the School of Nursing admitted its first batch of six students. The General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) program offered by the school is recognized by the Assam Nursing Council and the Indian Nursing Council.[6]

Located in the Sonitpur district of Assam, the Baptist Christian Hospital in Tezpur is a renowned healthcare facility with a capacity of 130 beds.[7] Its history dates back to 1954 when it was established. The Baptist Christian Hospital, Tezpur, is registered as a society under the Society Registration Act of India, 1860.[8] Since its inception, the Baptist Christian Hospital, Tezpur, has been dedicated to serving the healthcare needs of the economically disadvantaged and marginalized populations in the region. It serves not only the local population but also reaches out to the surrounding districts, extending its healing touch to the underprivileged communities. As a part of the Emmanuel Hospital Association (EHA), New Delhi, the Baptist Christian Hospital is affiliated with one of the largest non-governmental healthcare providers in India.[9][10] The EHA's extensive network includes 19 hospitals, 42 community health projects, and seven nursing schools, strategically spread across North, Central, and North-East India.[11]

During the training period, students are posted in the parent hospital (Baptist Christian Hospital). However, they also get opportunities to gain clinical experience outside of their parent hospital, including clinical postings/exposure at institutions like LGBRIMH (Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health), the Tezpur Cancer Centre] and Makunda Christian Leprosy & General Hospital.
