Arnaldo Díaz Vázquez

Arnaldo Díaz Vázquez is a Latino chemist and higher education administrator who is known for mentoring students of color in STEM born in Puerto Rico.[1][2][3]

Education[edit]

Díaz who is from Arroyo, Puerto Rico earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry at Texas A&M University and completed his postdoctoral work at the University of Pennsylvania.[4]

Career[edit]

As of 2023, Diaz is the inaugural assistant dean for diversity at the UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.[4]

Diaz was previously affiliated with the department of systems pharmacology and translational therapeutics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania as an adjunct assistant professor of pharmacology and director of the Summer Undergraduate Internship Program (SUIP), and assistant dean for research training programs.[5]

In 2018 Diaz was the director for the University of Pennsylvania's Summer Undergraduate Internship Program (SUIP), a competitive program to prepare undergraduate students of color for PhD programs in biomedicine and biological sciences.[6]

Awards[edit]

Diaz was named the 2022 Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) Distinguished Mentor.[7]

In 2020 Diaz was named among most inspiring Hispanic/Latino scientists in America by Cell Press, a publisher of biomedical journals.[3]
