"Dancing Diva" (Chinese: 舞孃) is a song by Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai from her eighth studio album, Dancing Diva (2006). The song was written by Miriam Nervo, Olivia Nervo, Greg Kurstin, and Issac Chen, and it was produced by Adia. It was released as the lead single from the album on April 26, 2006, by EMI and Mars.[1]
Background and release[edit]
On December 21, 2005, the media revealed that Tsai had begun to collect songs for her new album, which was expected to be released the following year[2].On February 14, 2006, Tsai signed a contract with EMI and stated that she had already begun the recording of her new album,[3] and announced that her new album would be released on May 12, Tsai said, "EMI Capitol is a brand new environment, they provide a wealth of music resources and give me freedom to do what I want! ".[4] On March 15, 2006, the media revealed that Tsai's recording progress for her new album had reached 80 percent and the title track of her new album had been confirmed.[5] On March 25, 2006, Tsai completed the recording of her new album.
On April 26, 2006, Tsai released the single of the same name for her album, Dancing Diva.[1] The song was produced with a strong sense of rhythm and catchy lyrics, with an exotic atmosphere,[6] the song won number 33 on the 2006 Hit FM Top 100 Singles of the Year in Taiwan.[7]
Music video[edit]
On April 27, 2006, Tsai released the music video for her song "Dancing Diva", which was co-directed by Marlboro Lai and Bill Chia.[8] Its main dance theme is the "Light Wave Dance", which is a fusion of reggae, hip-hop and Middle Eastern dance. Through the power of the hips and chest, the explosive power is maintained in the soft and smooth movements,[9] and Tsai also incorporates the ribbon element of rhythmic gymnastics in the music video in order to pursue a different visual effect of the dance. Tsai said, "When I was out promoting, I watched TV and thought the ribbons in gymnastics were very pretty, so I told my manager I wanted to learn them and use them in my future dances.[10] After the album was finished, we thought the ribbon would be a good fit for the song 'Dancing Diva'". Tsai also said, "Gymnastics is a sport that requires strength, and it's actually a bit scary, so I have to force myself to do different physical exercises, such as pulling my legs up to 180 degrees. I'm so tired that I can't breathe after every gymnastic session"[11]
