Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai has been actively participating in charitable activities, providing assistance through donations and other means whenever disasters occur in her home country and neighboring countries.[1] She has also been enthusiastic about participating in public interest activities, covering children's rights,[2] elder rights,[3] women's rights,[4] LGBT rights,[5] disability rights,[6] animal rights,[7] public health and safety,[8] etc.

Charitable assistance[edit]

1990s[edit]

  • In September 1999, Taiwan was hit by the 1999 Jiji earthquake, she donated all the proceeds from the autograph session of her 1999 album 1019 for the earthquake relief, and the music video of the track "Living with the World" featured the video clips of the post-earthquake rescue work and expressed her gratitude for the assistance from all walks of life.[9]

2000s[edit]

  • In May 2003, when the SARS epidemic broke out globally, she and 85 other artists sang the charity song "Hand in Hand".[10]
  • In May 2003, she, on behalf of the 86 artists who sang the song "Hand in Hand", went to Taiwan Centers for Disease Control to express condolences to medical staff and donated 100,000 copies of the single.[11]
  • In December 2004, she made anonymously donations to several charities for the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami relief.[12]
  • In January 2005, she participated in a fundraising event held by Azio TV, in which she donated money for the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami relief again.[12]
  • In May 2008, she and her friends jointly donated RMB 1 million for the 2008 Sichuan earthquake relief.[1]

  • In July 2008, she was invited by World Vision to endorse the 30 Hour Famine, she also visited Guangyuan, Sichuan, China to express her condolences.[14]
  • In August 2009, Taiwan was hit by Typhoon Morakot, she and her friends jointly donated NT$3 million.[15]

2010s[edit]

  • In April 2010, she participated in a charity concert held at Workers' Stadium in Beijing, China to appeal for help in the educational reconstruction in the 2010 Yushu earthquake-stricken area, all the proceeds from the concert were donated to Chinese Red Cross Foundation for the student aid program in Yushu and Wenchuan earthquake-stricken areas.[16]
  • In March 2011, she and her management company jointly donated US$50,000 for the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami relief.[17]
  • In April 2013, she donated RMB 1 million for the 2013 Lushan earthquake relief.[18]
  • In July 2013, she donated RMB 150,000 through Sichuan Charity Federation for the reconstruction of elementary schools in the 2013 Lushan earthquake-stricken area.[19]
  • In August 2014, she donated NT$2 million for the 2014 Kaohsiung gas explosions relief, of which NT$1 million for the rescue work of police and firefighters, and the other NT$1 million to help victims affected by the accident.[20]
  • In February 2018, she donated NT$1 million for the 2018 Hualien earthquake relief.[21]

  • In January 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in China, she donated RMB 1 million.[22]
  • In April 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic broke out globally, she was invited by Yunnan Television to sing the charity song "Fight as One" with Eason Chan.[23]
  • In May 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in Taiwan, she donated NT$1 million through the Taipei City Department of Social Welfare to purchase the first ever smart constant temperature bento box vending machine in Taiwan for Wanhua Social Welfare Service Center.[24]

  • In November 2003, she was invited by Ronald McDonald House Charities to serve as an ambassador to appeal to the public to help children with cross-area medical treatment and donate to support the construction of Ronald McDonald Family Rooms.[25]
  • In March 2004, she was invited by 7-Eleven and John Tung Foundation to endorse the Depressed Teenager Sunshine Project, calling on the public to help depressed teenagers regain positive expectation in life and get rid of depression.[26]
  • In June 2004, she was invited by Hong Kong Alzheimer's Disease Association to participate in a charity concert to appeal to the public to pay attention to the problem of Alzheimer's disease in the elderly.[27]
  • In June 2004, she donated RM50,000 proceeds from the autograph session of her 2004 album Castle held in Kuching, Malaysia, to Batu Kawa Min Lit Secondary School in Malaysia for school funding.[28]
  • In November 2004, she donated all the proceeds from the first 100 tickets sold for her J1 World Tour in Taipei, Taiwan, and NT$50 of the proceeds from every other tickets to Ronald McDonald House Charities.[29]
  • In April 2005, she was invited by Taipei City Department of Social Welfare, Taipei City Police Department, Taipei City Department of Health, Child Welfare League Foundation, and Caring for Taiwan Foundation to endorse the Baby, Our Hope campaign to appeal to the public to prevent child abuse and pay attention to child protection.[2]

  • In November 2006, she donated NT$50 of the proceeds from every tickets sold for her three shows of Dancing Forever World Tour in Taipei, Taiwan to Ronald McDonald House Charities, ultimately contributing more than NT$10 million.[31]

  • In May 2009, she was invited by the Child Welfare League Foundation to endorse the Let Love Fly campaign, calling on all sectors of society to provide job opportunities for unemployed mothers.[4]

  • In September 2010, she was invited by Sunshine Social Welfare Foundation to endorse the Sunshine Campaign, calling on the public to respect and care for people with facial loss.[36]
  • In April 2011, she was invited by Maria Social Welfare Foundation to serve as an ambassador to call on the public to help children with physical and mental disabilities in remote elementary schools.[37]
  • In April 2014, she participated in Project WAO Concert to appeal to the public to help abused girls, and all the proceeds of the concert were donated to City People Foundation.[38]
  • In October 2014, she was invited by Child Welfare League Foundation to endorse the Help Me Grow Up, Help Me Find Home campaign to appeal to the public to donate and adopt children.[39]
  • In May 2015, she designed bandages for charity sale, and all the proceeds from the charity sale were donated to Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights to promote the gender equality.[5]
  • In September 2015, she was invited by Taiwan Foundation for the Blind to serve as an ambassador to appeal to the public to correctly help the visually impaired.[40]
  • In October 2015, she designed 1,000 groups of fondant cakes for charity sale, and all the proceeds from the charity sale were donated to Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights.[41]
  • In March 2016, she was invited by the Taipei City Department of Education to endorse the Promote the Pilot Implementation Plan of the Construction of Gender-Friendly Restrooms Project to call on the public to pay attention to gender equality education.[42]

  • In September 2016, she participated in Bazaar Stars Charity Night, and donated RMB 700,000 to Bazaar Charity Fund to purchase ambulances in poverty-stricken areas in China.[44]
  • In May 2017, she painted the painting You for charity sale, and the NT$200,000 proceeds of the charity sale were donated to Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights.[45]
  • In June 2017, she was invited by the Taiwan AIDS Society, Taiwan AIDS Nurses Association, and Harmony Home Association to serve as an ambassador to call on the public to face AIDS with a positive attitude.[8]
  • In October 2017, she partnered with Fendi's Hong Kong Peekaboo Project to design handbag for charity sale, and all the proceeds from the charity sale were donated to Prader-Willi Syndrome Association Taiwan.[46]
  • In December 2017, she was invited by Huashan Social Welfare Foundation to endorse the Love the Elderly, Love Reunion campaign to call on the public to pay attention to the aging issue, and donated NT$1 million to the foundation, in addition, she also privately donated NT$1 million to the foundation in 2016.[3]
  • In March 2018, she was invited by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals Asia to call on people to reject the fur trade and animal entertainment industry.[7]

  • In October 2018, she participated in One Night for Children Concert to appeal to the public to care for special children groups, and all the proceeds from the concert was donated to charities.[48]

  • In March 2022, she was invited by Taiwan Foundation for Rare Disorders to endorse the Rare Disease Disadvantaged Children Education Project to appeal to the public to donate money to create a learning-friendly environment for children with rare diseases.[53]
