2024 Bali gubernatorial election

The 2024 Bali gubernatorial election will be held on 27 November 2024 as part of nationwide local elections to elect the governor of Bali for a five-year term.
Electoral system[edit]
The election, like other local elections in 2024, follow the first-past-the-post system where the candidate with the most votes wins the election, even if they do not win a majority.[1] It is possible for a candidate to run uncontested, in which case the candidate is still required to win a majority of votes "against" an "empty box" option. Should the candidate fail to do so, the election will be repeated on a later date.[2]
Candidates[edit]
According to electoral regulations, in order to qualify for the election, candidates are required to secure support from a political party or a coalition of parties controlling 11 seats in the Bali Regional House of Representatives (DPRD). The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, with 32 of 55 seats in the DPRD, is the only party eligible to nominate a gubernatorial candidate without forming a coalition.[3] Candidates may alternatively demonstrate support in form of photocopies of identity cards, which in Bali's case corresponds to 277,909 copies. No independent candidates registered with the General Elections Commission before the set deadline.[4]
Potential[edit]
The following are individuals who have either been publicly mentioned as a potential candidate by a political party in the DPRD, publicly declared their candidacy with press coverage, or considered as a potential candidate by press:
- I Wayan Koster (PDI-P), incumbent governor.[5]
- Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati (PDI-P), incumbent vice governor (as running mate).[5]
- I Nyoman Giri Prasta (PDI-P), regent of Badung (as running mate).[5]
- Ida Bagus Rai Mantra, former mayor of Denpasar (2008–2015; 2016–2021).[6]
