Plave (Korean: 플레이브; stylized in all caps) is a South Korean virtual boy band formed by Vlast. The group consists of five members: Yejun, Noah, Bamby, Eunho and Hamin.

Name[edit]

The group name "Plave" is a compound word combining Play + Rêve (Dream), symbolising their worldview of creating a new space to achieve their dreams.[1]

History[edit]

2022–2023: Introduction and official debut[edit]

Plave was released through a live broadcast on its official YouTube and Twitch on September 15, 2022.[2] The group made their official debut on March 12, 2023, with the release of their first single album Asterum, a mysterious space that exists between Caelum and Terra where they meet their fans, according to Plave's worldview.[3]

The group's second EP, Asterum: The Shape of Things to Come reached one million streams in 13 hours, and a total of 1.7 million streams in 24 hours after its release and entered the Melon Hall of Fame.[4] On November 17, 2023, it was announced that the group was nominated for Rookie of the Year along many other artists for the Melon Music Awards.[5] Apart from releasing music, the group also streams live on its YouTube channel twice a week in order to interact with their fans, through various activities including live performances.

During their livestream on December 12th, 2023, the members announced that they will be joining Weverse,[6] subsequently opening an official fan club membership through the application at the start of 2024. Plave is the first virtual group to join the platform.[7]

2024–present: First anniversary and fan concert[edit]

On February 26th, 2024, their second mini album, Asterum: 134-1 was released, with a record of 221,151 physical albums sold on opening day and 569,289 copies in one week, a new record for the group.[8] Plave continues to defy public expectations when their title track, 'Way 4 Luv' managed to win first place on two Korean weekly music shows, Show Champion,[9][10] and Show! Music Core[11][12], making them the first virtual idol group in history to win the coveted awards.

Plave celebrated the anniversary of their group debut on March 12, 2024, with a livestream on their YouTube channel gaining over 35,000 live viewers from all over the world. In celebration of their first anniversary, a pop-up store themed around their latest title track 'WAY 4 LUV' was opened for two weeks at the start of March 2024 at The Hyundai Seoul, South Korea.[13][14] Fans had the opportunity to take pictures with individual members of Plave through the use of holographic photo booths, purchase exclusive merchandise and participate in lucky draws during the event.

They held their first fan concert over April 13-14, 2024 at the Olympic Hall, Seoul, South Korea.[15]
