The 1960 presidential campaign of Richard Nixon began when Vice President of the United States Richard Nixon of California decided to seek the Republican Party nomination for President of the United States.

During the general election, Nixon faced U.S. Senator John F. Kennedy of Massachusetts, the Democratic Party nominee. On Election Day, Nixon narrowly fell short of Kennedy in the popular vote, but lost, by a large margin, in the Electoral College. Had Nixon been elected, he would have been the first incumbent vice president since Martin Van Buren to be elected.

Nixon would go on to win the 1968 election, becoming the 37th president of the United States.
