Suzuho Makaze (Japanese: 真風 涼帆, Makaze Suzuho, born July 18th, 1986) is a Japanese actress and a former Takarazuka Revue top star, born in Kumamoto Prefecture, Kikuchi District.[1] Height is 175 cm, blood type B, nicknames: "Yurika", "Suzuho".[2]

Career[edit]

Entered the Takarazuka Music School in 2004 and graduated in 2006, ranked 15th.[3] After that, she officially joined the Takarazuka Revue as a 92nd generation member.[1] Her first time on stage was with the Cosmos Troupe (Sora-gumi) on the Never Say Goodbye musical. After that she got transferred the Star Troupe (Hoshi-gumi).[4] She displayed impressive skills in her early days and in 2009, in the "My dear New Orleans" public performance, where top combi "Kei Aran" and "Asuka Tono" left the revue as their last play,[5] she played the leading rookie role for the first time on stage. She went on to play the rookie role again 5 times after that.[6]

At the Takarazuka Bow Hall in 2011 she plays the leading role for the first time in the "Lancelot" musical.[7]

At the Nippon Seinenkan in 2013, in the "Where the Sun Shines" musical, she plays the leading role in Tokyo for the first time.[8]

May 11th, 2015, she transfers to the Cosmos Troupe (Sora-gumi).[1] The same year, where Manato Asaka and Rion Misaki get announced as the Cosmos Troupe top combo at the "A Song for Kingdoms" musical, Suzuho Makaze simultaneously becomes the second most important member of the troupe.[8][9]

She plays the leading role in Tokyo once more in 2016 at the Kanagawa Kenmin Hall, in the "Vampire Succession" musical.[8]

In November 20, 2017 she becomes the 8th top star of the Cosmos Troupe as Manato Asaka's predecessor.[10][3] Her musumeyaku (girl role) partner becomes Madoka Hoshikaze and the combo gets revealed the following year at the Tokyo International Forum, in the "West Side Story" musical.[11]

In 2021, due to Madoka Hoshikaze's transfer to the Superior Members troupe, Makaze welcomes Hana Jun as her new partner. The new combo gets revealed in 2021 at the Takarazuka Grand Theater, in the "Sherlock Holmes / Délicieux!" musical.[12]

In June 11th, 2023, in the last day of the "Casino Royale" musical, at the Takarazuka Grand Theater, Makaze leaves Takarazuka along with her partner Hana Jun.[13][14] She held the top star role for 5 years and 7 months in total, 3rd longest held in the Heisei era after Yōka Wao and Reon Yuzuki.[15]

After Takarazuka she expanded her activities to theatre and concert.

Biography[edit]

Born to a family of both parents and a younger brother in the Kumamoto Prefecture, she showed interest in dancing from a young age due to her mother running her own dance class.[3] In primary school, she learned piano, penmanship and abacus (practiced primarily by children in Japan and China). In middle school, being invited from a close friend, she joins the table tennis club.[16]

In her third year of middle school, she attends a Takarazuka play from the Moon Troupe (Tsuki-gumi).[16] On stage, she found an application form for the Takarazuka Music School, and with the support of her mother she decides to take the entrance exam for the school right after graduating middle school.[16] Sadly though, due to no prior preparation, she fails at the second stage of the entrance exam. After failing the exam she attends another play from the troupe, this time from the Flower Troupe (Hana-gumi) and is once more reminded of her desire to enter the troupe saying to herself "I really do want to enter here after all".[16] With this in mind, she learns ballet and vocal music during her high school period. In her second year of high school, she produced an original dance for Sports Day and was selected as the school's representative for the Kumamoto Prefecture Recital where she ended up winning first place for her performance.[16] Afterwards, on her third try at the Takarazuka Music School Entrance examination, she passes successfully.[16]
