Aeri Uchinaga (内永 えり, Uchinaga Eri, born October 30, 2000), better known mononymously as Giselle, is a Japanese[1] singer currently based in South Korea. She is a member of the South Korean girl group Aespa, formed by SM Entertainment in November 2020.

Career[edit]

2020–present: Debut in Aespa[edit]

After 11 months of training,[2] SM Entertainment unveiled Giselle as the third member of Aespa on November 6, 2020,[3] which is the company's first girl group since Red Velvet in 2014. They debuted with the single "Black Mamba" on November 17.[4]

In December, 2021, Giselle participated in the single "Zoo" with labelmates from SM for the 2021 Winter SM Town: SMCU Express.[5]

Personal life[edit]

Giselle was born in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea, to a Korean mother and a Japanese father, and grew up in Tokyo, Japan.[6] She is fluent in Japanese, Korean, and English.[6]

She attended Tokyo International School and International School of the Sacred Heart, where she was introduced to K-pop in her sophomore year of high school.[7][8] She later returned to Korea after graduation to audition for SM Entertainment and passed the company's Saturday auditions after 4 attempts.[9][10][2]

Other ventures[edit]

Endorsements[edit]

On March 1, 2024, Giselle was appointed as the brand ambassador for the Spanish luxury fashion house Loewe. She made her first appearance as their ambassador during the brand's "Fall 2024 Ready-to-Wear Collection" in Paris.[11]

Philanthropy[edit]

In June 2022, Giselle donated KR₩10 million to Yuhengsa, which is a South Korean non-profit organisation that aims to protect and rehabilitate abandoned animals.[12]
