Anathema[1] (Spanish: Anatema) is an upcoming Spanish Gothic horror film directed by Jimina Sabadú [es] (in her directorial debut feature) starring Leonor Watling and Pablo Derqui.

Plot[edit]

Acting on behalf of the Archdiocese, hard-boiled nun sor Juana gets into a church in Old Madrid built over a maze of underground passages, finding that Evil has taken roots.[2]

The screenplay was penned by Jimina Sabadú [es] and Elio Quiroga [es]. Sabadú stated that the film "is a story of Gothic horror with roots rooted in the most ancestral Madrid, that of passages and lost architectures".[2] The film is a Pokeepsie Films production, and it had the association of Sony Pictures International Productions and the participation of Prime Video.[4] It was lensed by Luis Ángel Pérez.[5] Shooting locations in Madrid and Bizkaia included Bilbao and the Pozalagua Cave [es] in Karrantza.[3]

Release[edit]

Sony Pictures Entertainment Iberia will release theatrically the film,[4] whose release is tentatively expected for 2024.[6]
