The Belgian National Indoor Championships was a combined men's and women's closed indoor tennis tournament (Belgian players only) founded in 1928 as the Belgian Closed Covered Court Championships.[1] The tournament was first held in Brussels, Belgium,[2] and ran annually until 1982 when it was discontinued as part of the ILTF Independent Circuit.[1]

History[edit]

In December 1928 the first Belgian Closed Covered Court Championships were founded,[3] and was played in Brussels, Belgium on indoor hard courts.[1] The winner of the men's singles title was André Ewbank.[1] The winner of the women's singles event was won by Josane Sigart.[1] The event was a closed tournament for players from Belgium only.[1] The event was also played on indoor wood courts throughout its run.[1] It ran annually as part of the ILTF World Circuit until 1969 for men, then 1972 for women before it then became part of the ILTF Independent Circuit (those events not part of the men's ILTF Grand Prix Circuit or women's Virginia Slims Circuit until 1982 when it was downgraded from that tour.[1]
