Boy Spyce is the debut eponymous extended play by Nigerian singer-songwriter Boy Spyce. It was released on 15 April 2022 through Mavin Records.[2]
Background and release[edit]
In 2021, Boy Spyce posted a viral cover on Instagram to Wizkid and Tems's song "Essence". The post caught the attention of Don Jazzy who offered a record deal.[3][4] He signed a record deal with Don Jazzy's Mavin Records, in 2022.[5][6] After the deal, Boy Spyce released the five track eponymous EP through Mavin Records on 15 April 2022.[7][8]
On 16 April 2022, Mavin Records released the music video of the fourth single "Nobody" which was directed by TG Omori.[9]
Compostion[edit]
The EP contains five tracks which was produced by Mykah, AykBeats, Kezzi, Johnny Drille, Presto and Andre Vibez.
The EP begins with "Dreams", a Soul-styled song in which Boy Spyce sends a message to his classmates and friends who have vision of continuing college; but he has dreams of pursuing his career in music. The second track, "Bad Things" is an Afrobeats tune in which Boy Spyce talks about a girl who wants everything, whether good or bad; but she rather go for bad things instead of good. The influence of Afropop can be heard on "Wayo," discussing pride and diligence. The fourth song "Nobody," is a R&B track expressing romantic love and pretence; of which Boy Spyce revealed he was inspired by his Friend's Love Story.[10] The EP closes with a motivational, piece called "Destiny". Spyce talked about hardwork, diligence and ambition.[11]
