Lettau is a surname of French origin. Along with numerous variants such as Létau, Letaux, Leteau, Letteau, Létaud, Letault, Leteault, and Letaut, it may stem from the Old Breton name for Armorica or Brittany, Letau (“land” or “earth”), itself derived from the name of the Gallic deity Litavis. Alternatively, it may derive from Mont Létaud in Auvergne or Litteau in Normandy.
