Armale (Somali: Carmaale) is a town in Sanaag region of Somaliland[2]

History[edit]

Carmale is a town situated in the Sanaag Region, located to the east of Erigavo District, approximately 68 kilometers away from Erigavo.

Established in 1958 by local residents, Carmale holds historical significance, with notable figures such as Hassan Adan credited as pioneers, including the construction of the first Carish known as "Ina Qarboosh." The city emerged around one of the wells constructed in the Sanaag region six decades ago.

Renowned for its fertile grazing lands, Carmale is distinguished by its picturesque mountains, valleys, and verdant forests during the rainy season. It is steeped in civilization and traditional culture, serving as the ancestral homeland for many prominent individuals in the Sanaag region.

It serves as an ideal locale for grazing various livestock, owing to its favorable conditions.

As a burgeoning urban center, it possesses promising prospects for future development and growth.

Carmale boasts essential social infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, and water sources, vital for the well-being of its residents. Governed at the district level, the city operates under an administrative framework led by a mayor, deputy mayor, secretary, and other board members.

Geography[edit]

The town is located in the Hadeed Plateau, a tract of land that covers the middle section of a large area of the Sool Plateau. With the exception of the Riafonleh mountain, this plateau is largely flat.[3]
