Louis Hänni

Louis Hänni (born 21 March 1927 in Thun; † 8 June 2019 in Thun) was a Swiss vocational school teacher and local historian.

Life and work[edit]

After primary school in Dürrenast, Louis Hänni did an apprenticeship as a machinist at Brown, Boveri & Cie. He then studied at the Technikum Burgdorf, where he obtained a diploma in mechanical engineering in 1950. He worked as an engineer for the next seven years. From 1957 to 1992 he taught as a principal teacher at the Vocational School in Thun.

In his spare time, Hänni researched the history of Strättligen and in 1984 wrote the local history publication of the same name.[1] In 1920, the municipality of Strättligen was incorporated into Thun

In 2000, Hänni was awarded the "Thun Prize" by the city of Thun for his services as a chronicler of Strättligen.[2]

Louis Hänni was married to the dressmaker Johanna Hänni-Lüthi. They had four children.
