M Group Services is an infrastructure services group of companies operating within the United Kingdom, owned by PAI Partners.[1] Their services are generally split into Telecommunications, Transport, Energy and Water.[2]

History[edit]

M Group Services is the product of a number of acquisitions and mergers, and began when Morrison Construction was established in the small Scottish town of Tain in 1948 by Alexander Morrison.[3][4]

In 1989 the Morrison Family sold 80% of their share in Morrison Construction to Charter Consolidated for an undisclosed sum, but then later in 1994 repurchased the 80% back, including the acquisition of Biggs Wall and Shand Construction from Charter.[5]

In 2000 AWG plc acquired Morrison Construction for £262 million.[6] Morrison Construction was then subsequently sold to Galliford Try in 2006[7] and remains to be the Scottish arm of their construction business to this day.[8] Following this acquisition by AWG plc, the remainder of the business was split into Morrison Facilities Services and Morrison Utilities Services.

In 2008 Morrison Utility Services was acquired by private equity firms Cognetas and Englefield Capital for £235 million.[9]

In 2012 AWG plc sold Morrison Facilities Services to Mears Group for £24 million.[10]

In 2016 Morrison Utility Services was acquired by private equity firm First Reserve Corporation.[11]

In 2016 M Group Services was established and was the successor to Morrison Utility Services.[12]

In 2018 M Group Services was acquired by PAI Partners, a private equity group.[13]
