Air Senegal Flight 301 was a scheduled international passenger flight from Blaise Diagne International Airport, Dakar, to Modibo Keita International Airport in Bamako, on 9 May 2024.[1][2][3] The plane aborted take-off but failed, and crashed shortly after.[4][5] The crash lead to 10 on board injured, with four suffering major injuries.[6][7][8] The accident is still under investigation.[9]
Aircraft[edit]
The plane involved in the accident was a 29-year-old Boeing 737-300 operated by Tarom until November 2023 when it was delivered to Air Senegal.[10][11][12]
Accident[edit]
The plane was preparing for departure at around 4:30pm local time, when the pilots reported a hydraulic problem and decided to abort the take-off. The aircraft came to a stop as it was veering to the left while exiting the runway. The left engine and wing then caught fire but it was quickly extinguished. The emergency vehicles evacuated all the passengers, and the injured were transported to a local hospital.[13] The airport was closed after the incident, and was opened shortly after. Air Senegal Flight 2009, that was descending during the accident, was diverted to Banjul, Gambia. According to a passenger the plane had already tried to take off once but failed, and during the second take off attempt that lead to the incident there was smoke coming from the wing.[14]
