Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show is an American comedy television documentary series, directed by Ari Katcher. It follows Jerrod Carmichael, as he navigates friends, family, and strangers, in his quest for love, sex, and connection.
It had its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 10, 2024.[1][2] It premiered on March 29, 2024, on HBO.[3]

As his experiment in radical honesty begins, Jerrod confronts his crush, avoids his mother, and scrambles to find a date to the Emmys. His crush is revealed to be rapper Tyler, the Creator. He invites Tyler to be his date for the Emmy Awards but gets rejected. He then has a conversation with Tyler about their friendship. He ends up bringing his friend Anonymous to the Emmys, and he ends up winning for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special for Rothaniel, his comedy special. | ||||

Jerrod introduces his boyfriend Michael. Michael is a writer, getting his master's degree at the University of Iowa. Michael seems to spend weekends in New York with Jerrod. On one of the weekdays when Michael is back in Iowa, Jerrod calls over a Grindr hookup. His friend and fellow standup Jamar Neighbors sees this and both mention it in their respective routines on stage. Jerrod reads up on sex addiction, and some of it begins to resonate and goes therapy shopping. Michael attends one of these therapy sessions after learning about the recent hookup and they have a discussion about monogamy. Then, Michael leaves town again and Jerrod gets on Grindr. | ||||

In February 2023, it was announced HBO had ordered a documentary series revolving around Jerrod Carmichael, with Ari Katcher set to direct.[4]

Critical reception[edit]
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 100% of 10 critics' reviews are positive.[5] On Metacritic, the series holds a weighted average score of 82 out of 100, based on 10 critics.[6]
