Guy Peleg (born on 6 November 1969) is an Israeli journalist, reporter and legal commentator for Channel 12 News. He grew up in Haifa.

Life[edit]

Peleg lived in Carmelia in Haifa as a young man and studied at Ironi Hei High School in the city. Peleg is a graduate of Haifa University.[1]

He began his career in journalism in Israel as a local newspaper reporter and spokesman for Maccabi Haifa. Later he served as a television news correspondent in Haifa, replacing Amos Carmeli. In 1995 he joined the Israel Broadcasting Authority. He was a police correspondent for Channel One, replacing Ayala Hasson until 2007. As part of his work, he obtained exclusive interviews with key figures in the world of organized crime in Israel, including Shoni Gabrieli, Francois Abutbul and others.[2] In addition to his work at Channel One, he worked as a reporter for the "7 Days" supplement of the newspaper Yedioth Ahronot.[3]

He was in advanced talks to move to Channel 10,[2] but eventually moved in 2007 to serve as legal correspondent for Channel 2 News, replacing Sivan Rahav-Meir.[4]

Following an interview he conducted with Einat Harel, nicknamed "the Madame of Tel Aviv" and accused of pimping for prostitution and money laundering worth tens of millions of shekels, the Israel Police sought to force the Channel 2 news company to provide it with the raw material of the interview. The news company refused and appealed to the court, which accepted its position, and ruled that journalistic confidentiality should also be applied to information collected by a journalist in the course of his work and not published.[5]
