Arthur Tillotson

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Arthur William Tillotson (15 September 1926 – 11 April 2016)[1] was a British football player[2] from Skipton[3] who played for the Silsden FC team during the 1940s and 50s, in attack,[4] centre-forward, centre-half, defense,[5] and left-back positions.

In the 1930s, he also played in Leeds United FC first ever game when he was 17 years old[6] on 28 August 1920 at Port Vale FC[7] in the position of left-back.[8][9] His nine goals in one game for Silsden remains unchallenged.[10] In 1951[11] he scored the winning goal for his team against Bradford City AFC.[12] Even when he retired from the team,[13] Tillotson continued to support the club[14] for the rest of his life and was elected life president.[15] After he died, the Arthur Tillotson Memorial Cup[16] was created in his honor.[17] He also played for Castleford Town FC.[18]
