The Vasquez expedition to Texas was an expedition by General Rafael Vásquez against the Republic of Texas in 1842.

The invasion[edit]

On March 5, 1842, Vásquez occupied San Antonio[1] with approximately 700 men.  The Texans, not being strong enough to control the city, evacuated without a fight when Vásquez demanded his surrender.  He took San Antonio, raised the Mexican flag and declared Mexican laws into force.[1]

Aftermath[edit]

Vásquez left on March 7 and crossed the Rio Grande back to Mexico;  His invasion was considered a looting or a guerrilla raid and was one of the events that led to the Somervell and Mier expeditions.[2]
