Krishnamma is a 2024 Indian Telugu-language action drama film written and directed by V. V. Gopala Krishna and presented by Koratala Siva; produced by Krishna Kommalapati, under Arunachala Creations. It stars Satya Dev, Athira Raj, Archana Iyer, Laxman Meesala and Krishna Burugula in lead roles. The film is released on 10 May 2024.[3]

Plot[edit]

Set in the streets of Vijayawada's Vinchipeta, "Krishnamma" follows the lives of Bhadra (Satya Dev), Koti (Laxman Meesala), and Shiva (Krishna Burugula) – three orphans bound together by a strong sense of brotherhood rather than by blood ties. Their journey is marked by a series of minor crimes, with Shiva experiencing imprisonment early in their lives.

Following his release, Shiva decides to pursue a lawful path by establishing a printing business. However, Bhadra and Koti continue their involvement in criminal activities, unwilling to leave behind the only life they know.

Their circumstances take a drastic turn when they find themselves in urgent need of a significant amount of money. In a bid to acquire it, they embark on a final operation that ends in tragedy. This event sets off a chain of unforeseen calamities and personal dilemmas, challenging their bonds of brotherhood and forcing them to confront the consequences of their actions.

Production[edit]

On 18 Auguest 2021, The announcement of the film was made through a Muhurtham pooja ceremony marking Satya Dev's 25th film in Hyderabad by Dil Raju and Harish Shankar.[4]

On 4 July 2022, Satyadev shared the first look and title of the film on Twitter.[5] and on 4 August 2022, the teaser of the film was released by Sai Durgha Tej.[6]

The pre-release event of the film took place on 1 May 2024, S. S. Rajamouli, Koratala Siva, Anil Ravipudi, and Gopichand Malineni graced the occasion and launched the trailer.[7][8]

The soundtrack album and background score were composed by Kaala Bhairava and Saregama secured the audio rights.[9][10] On 19 August 2022, "Emavutundo Manalo" lyrical song was released by director Harish Shankar, the song lyrics was written by Anantha Sriram and was sung by Sid Sriram.[11]

The "Krishnamma" title song was released on 2 September 2022 and sung by Anurag Kulkarni and written by Anantha Siram.[12] on 11 April 2024, "Durgamma" song was released which had lyrics written by Anantha Sriram and sung by Saketh Komanduri.[13] followed by the release of "The Theme of Vengeance" song on 19 April 2024, the song lyrics was written by Anantha Sriram and sung by Dhiipu and Kaala Bhairava. Mythri Movie Makers and Primeshow Entertainment are jointly handling the distribution of the film.[17]

The digital distribution rights of the film were acquired by Amazon Prime.[18]

Reception[edit]

Paul Nicodemus of The Times of India rated the film 3/5 stars and stated "Krishnamma impresses with its strong character dynamics, solid performances, and exploration of complex themes, making it a notable debut for its director".[19]

Raghu Bandi from The Indian Express gave the film 2/5 stars and wrote "Krishnamma provides glimpses of engagement but predominantly follows conventional tropes in Telugu cinema, appealing to audiences fond of rural emotional dramas".[20]

BVS Prakash of Deccan Chronicle rated the film 2/5 stars and stated that "The film showcases Satyadev's portrayal of a thug with realism and occasional innocence, but is hindered by a weak plot. Krishna Burugula, Lakhman Meesala deliver commendable performances, alongside Athira Raj's standout simplistic role".[21]

Avad Mohammad of OTT Play gave the film 2.5/5 stars and stated that "Krishnamma offers sporadic highlights within its revenge drama plotline, but its slow-paced first half and underwhelming climax hinder its overall impact".[22]

123 Telugu gave the film 2.75/5 stars and wrote "Krishnamma presents a revenge drama featuring Satyadev's performance, though its screenplay and emotional depth may not engage all viewers, catering mainly to fans of the genre".[23]
