Sujapur is a populated place not identified in the 2011 Indian census as a separate place, in the Indian state of West Bengal.[1] It has the highest concentration of Muslims of any municipality or populated place in the Malda district. It is under the jurisdiction of Kaliachak I block.

It will be part of the upcoming Nai Mouza municipal area within the Malda district, which will also include the villages of Boro Sujapur CT, Gayeshbari CT, Mosimpur CT, Bamangram CT, Bhakharpur CT, Chama gram/Nazirpur CT, Chhoto Sujapur CT, and Chaspara CT.[citation needed] The government has announced that it intends to establish a police station in the area in the near future.[citation needed]

Geography[edit]

Sujapur is located at 24°54′34″N 88°05′12″E / 24.9095°N 88.0868°E / 24.9095; 88.0868 Malda district, West Bengal. It has an average elevation of 17 metres (56 feet). It is on the western bank of the river river Bhagirathi (old). As in much of Bengal, the weather is usually extremely humid and tropical. Temperatures can reach as high as 46 °C during the day in May and June and fall as low as 4 °C overnight in December and January.

This area was settled in the time of ShahJahan by Said Rai, a north Indian Kayastha.Sujapur is located in the boarder area of India and Bangladesh.
