Jehovah-Nissi Ogulu, known professionally as Nissi,[1][2][3] is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, fine artist and founder of Creele Animation Studios.[4][5][6]

Early life[edit]

Ogulu was born to Bose and Samuel Ogulu and is the younger sister to Nigerian Afrobeats artiste Burna Boy.[7][8] She started with music at six years old and went on to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Warwick.[9][10] Her mother, Bose Ogulu, is a two time Grammy-nominated talent manager, Grammy-award winning Co-executive producer for best global album 2020 Twice as Tall.[11] Nissi’s grandfather is Benson Idonije, a radio broadcaster and first band manager of the late Fela Aníkúlápó Kuti[12]

Career[edit]

Nissi’s debut single “Pay Attention” was released in September 2016. She later released the official visuals directed by 2012 Stanley Kubrick Award winner; Labi Odebunmi. Her third single titled ‘’Familiar’’ was produced by Nigerian music producer Chopstix and was also released in 2016. In 2020, she released her EP titled, IGNITE, and followed up with singles, Hold in 2021,[13] Gravity (2022)[14] [15][16][17][18][19]

In 2021, she was one of the Jaguar Land Rover engineering team that designed and put together the 2023 Range Rover Model[20][21] and launched a charity NFT collection on the Binance NFT marketplace.[22][23] She also released a 3D Animation short film titled "The Satchel" [24][25] where she worked in the roles of a director, producer and composer created by her company. She also the 2022 Havana Club X Burna design awarded most innovative product at Paris Packaging week 2023.[26][27]

On January 2023, AfroNation announced Nissi as one of the featured artistes to perform at the inaugural Afro Nation Miami Festival held at LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida.[28][29][30]

On February 2023, the official music video for "Overthinking" premiered, amassing over a million views on YouTube[31][32].After its release, the video was included in the lineup for AfroNation Portugal, where Nissi performed her single "Higher" on June 29th, 2023. The event took place at Portimao beach from June 28 to 30.[33][34][35]

On June 15th, 2023, Nissi unveiled her single "Higher".[36][37] The track, produced by Kiyagigram and co-produced by Killertunes, was met with anticipation from fans. Subsequently, its accompanying music video was released on August 28th, 2023.[38][39]

On September 2023 she released her single “Nobody” featuring Fireboy DML.[40][41][42] She released a seven-track EP “Unboxed” on 6th October 2023 which contained her single "Overthinking" (2022).[43][44][45][46][47]

Nissi announced her inaugural headline performance at Sounds Of Brazil (SOBs) in New York. The event took place on March 15th, 2024, marking a milestone in her career.[48][49][50][51][52][53]
