Modon Lake is the largest developed artificial lake in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its establishment cost around S.R.129 million.[1] The total area for the project is around 400 thousand square meters, whereas the lake's area is around 210 thousand square meters, which is 52% bigger than the project's total area. The lake was established by Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones, Modon, in Industrial Area 2 in Al-Dammam.[2]

History[edit]

The lake was opened on March 15, 2014, in presence of the Prince of Eastern province, Saud Bin Nayef Bin Abadelaziz, and the minister of trade and industry, Tawfiq Rabia.[3]

Description[edit]

The project includes green areas, including 760 palm trees, and pedestrian paths whose length is 4 km.[4]

Modon sold treated water suitable for industrial use, converted sewage and industrial wastewater into renewable treated water, and filtered the surplus to the second industrial city lake with its biological and plant components.[5]
