Premise[edit]
Kinds of Kindness, described as a "triptych fable", consists of three distinct but loosely connected stories. The first segment, "The Death of R.M.F," follows a man who seeks to take charge of his own destiny after breaking away from his powerful boss. The second, "R.M.F. is Flying," depicts a man plagued by suspicions that his spouse, who has recently returned after being reported missing, is an imposter. The final segment, "R.M.F. Eats a Sandwich," revolves around a woman's quest to find an enigmatic cult leader who is believed to be a destined spiritual guide.[1][2]

Production[edit]
Yorgos Lanthimos and Efthymis Filippou wrote the script for the film, originally titled And, under development with Element Pictures and Film4, and Searchlight Pictures agreed to distribute the film, which Lanthimos would direct as well. Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, and Margaret Qualley were set to star in the film with plans to begin shooting in New Orleans in October.[4] In October 2022, Hong Chau,[5] Joe Alwyn,[6] and Mamoudou Athie joined the cast.[7] In a February 2023 interview, Hunter Schafer revealed she had "a little cameo" in the film.[8]
Filming took place in New Orleans from October 24 to December 16, 2022.[9][10] The three stories in the triptych were filmed back to back and each story took three weeks to be completed.[11] In December 2023, the film was re-titled Kinds of Kindness.[12]
Release[edit]
Kinds of Kindness is set to world premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in-competition on May 17, 2024.[13][14] It is scheduled to be released in the United States by Searchlight Pictures on June 21, 2024, and in Ireland and the United Kingdom on June 28, 2024.[15] The film is also scheduled to be released in Greece by Feelgood on May 30, 2024.[16]
