Haiji

A Haiji is a storyteller in Khakas culture who sings and narrates heroic tales to the accompaniment of traditional Khakas instruments (like the jadagan or the khomys) and throat singing.
Background[edit]
Haiji storytellers are venerated in Khakas culture, as they tell stories of the history of the Khakas people. Each professional Haiji could have between 10 and 20 stories in their repertoire.[citation needed]
Well known Haiji include Semyon Kadyshev, Makar Dobrov, and Pyotr Kurbizhekov. Kadyshev and Dobrov were members of the Writers Union of the USSR.[1]
